JBA Sets Numerical Targets for Anti-Global Warming Measures

JBA finalized the "Banking Industry Action Plan for the Environment" in September 2001 and has since worked on environmental issues in accordance with the plan. In September 2006, JBA established a numerical target for reducing electricity consumption at banks as an anti-global warming measure.

Subsequently, on November 21, JBA established a numerical target for the use of recycled paper as a community waste reduction and recycling measure. Minimizing electricity and paper use is a way that banks can contribute to the environment through conservation practices.

The content of the targets, which was announced to the public on the same day, is as follows; (1) Banks will reduce the total electricity consumption (head offices, branches and operation centers) by 12% in fiscal 2010 compared to 2000, (2) More than 70% of the paper that banks purchase in fiscal 2010 (at head offices, branches and operation centers) will be recycled paper and more than 85% of paper used by banks in the same year will be reused.
