Public Relations Activities for Preventing Excess Borrowing

Five trade groups - JBA, the Japan Credit Card Association, Federation of Finance Companies Associations of Japan, Japan Consumer Credit Industry Association, and The Japan Federation of Consumer Credit Companies - established the Meeting of Consumer Credit-related Associations in February 1992, with cooperation of the relevant governmental bodies. The meeting has since tackled the prevention of excess borrowing by exchanging information on each association's activities and by discussing possible joint measures for this purpose.One of these joint measures is a publicity campaign that promotes the correct use of consumer loans, which is conducted at this time of year. In line with this campaign, each association has embarked on publicity activities consisting of printing the above symbol mark on its posters, pamphlets, leaflets and advertisements for consumer education.JBA produced a poster and sent it to member banks to be posted at their branches from November to March and also to consumer information centers. Posters with the same design are also being posted at branches of other financial institutions including shinkin banks, credit cooperatives, agricultural cooperatives, fishery cooperatives and labor banks.
