JBA Agreement to Ban Mobile Phones at ATM Corners

On July 22, JBA executed an agreement to ban mobile phone use at bank ATM corners.

A tactic responsible for the recent increase in remittance solicitation frauds is one in which criminals deceive victims into coming to ATM corners by pretending they will provide refunds, directing victims in the operation of ATMs via mobile phone and thereby criminally receiving transfers. The agreement aims to combat this type of the crime and consists of the following three points.

(1) Banks ask customers to refrain from using mobile phones at ATM corners (within two meters of ATMs)

(2) JBA produces posters for this purpose (60,000 copies) to be posted in each bank.

(3) Bank staff shall try to do their best to prevent crimes by conversing with customers when they spot customers operating ATMs while using mobile phones.
