A report on JBA’s policy recommendations titled “Industry-Academic-Government Partnerships in the Creation and Nurturing of New Businesses and the Expected Role of the Banking Industry” was published on December 25.

In this report, JBA presents an overview of the current conditions of industry-academic-government partnerships in Japan and makes recommendations on the expected role of the banking industry based on findings from questionnaires on such topics as the status of activity of member banks in regard to industry-academic-government partnerships.

In particular, the report presents four recommendations on the expected role of the banking industry in regard to industry-academic-government partnerships: (1) Provide support to facilitate industry-academic-government partnerships; (2) Provide practical information, etc. to assist with the starting of new businesses or with business management; (3) Construct a new framework to enable the provision of funds; and (4) Support the industry-academic-government partnership activities of member banks.

The report also includes a compilation of examples of actual activities being carried out by banks.
