Carbon Neutrality Initiative 2025 [500 KB]
The Japanese Bankers Association (Chairperson: Akihiro Fukutome, President and CEO of Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation) compiled its Carbon Neutrality Initiative 2025 at its Board of Directors meeting.
In December 2021, the JBA published its Carbon Neutrality Initiative (*) , which summarises the banking industry’s policies and priorities for achieving carbon neutrality. The JBA revises this initiative annually, taking into account the progress of activities each fiscal year as well as discussions in Japan and overseas.
The JBA has revised the 2024 edition in light of recent progress related to transition finance, the need for an integrated approach towards nature positivity and a circular economy, and other relevant developments, and published Carbon Neutrality Initiative 2025 (Appendix 1, with an overview in Appendix 2).
The JBA will continue to contribute to the realisation of carbon neutrality and net zero emissions in Japan through the steady implementation of this Initiative in cooperation and collaboration with various stakeholders, including clients, relevant ministries and agencies, and related economic organisations.
