Banks to Cooperate with Customers Questions about Pension Payments

As issues concerning payment records of pensions have assumed national prominence, JBA made the following decision about member banks cooperating with customer inquiries about payment records on July 6.

Banks should sincerely respond to customer inquiries about past pension payments from their accounts when customers require payment records as a result of talks between them and the Social Insurance Agency, etc. This cooperation should be provided from the customer’s viewpoint of the problem.

The extent to which banks can satisfy customer requests to provide payment records may differ but the banks should fully explain the following points to their customers to ensure understanding. Any decision to charge fees for this service is at the discretion of each bank.

  1. Record keeping period for payments from savings accounts
Each bank has its own record keeping period for payments from savings accounts, and cannot provide records for payments beyond these periods.
  2. Time required to provide payment records
In many cases, old data are recorded on microfilm and stored in warehouses. Therefore, a certain amount of time may be necessary to retrieve data and produce payment records. Consequently, banks may not be able to meet customer requests promptly.
